Dr. Gupta, MD

Dr. Balaji Gupta grew up in Kansas City, MO in a family of doctors. "By second grade, I was already aiming to be a surgeon," said Dr. Gupta. Attending the accelerated combined medical program at Northwestern University allowed him to achieve his dream. As a medical student, he fell in love with ophthalmology. "I was always a photographer, having my own darkroom as a child, and becoming an eye doctor was a natural fit," said Dr. Gupta.

After earning his medical degree and completing his residency in Ophthalmic Surgery at the University of Illinois, Dr. Gupta proudly served as a Major in the United States Air Force performing surgery on pilots, retirees, and dependents. Afterwards, he took advanced training in pediatric eye surgery and eye muscle surgery with some of the world’s most respected pediatric eye surgeons.

This led to an assistant professorship at the Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Gupta said, "Teaching residents while examining complex patients referred by other ophthalmologists was rewarding." For many years, he was also clinical faculty at the University of Chicago and at Loyola University. He left full time academics to start a medical practice that would eventually lead to DuPage Ophthalmology.

"My mission is to bring cutting edge university level care to all my patients," said Dr. Gupta. "The highest compliment is to have physicians and patients refer friends and family to me." He has broad experience in treating a variety of eye diseases.

Dr. Gupta is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, a board member of the Illinois Ophthalmology Association and the Elmhurst Outpatient Surgicenter.
