Cataract Center and Presbyopia Vision Center

Cataract patients now have the option to have their vision corrected to allow them to see at both near and far distances after cataract surgery! These lens implants provide significantly reduced dependence on glasses for all tasks of daily living, providing a range of focus that laser vision correction cannot achieve. Individuals with visual impairment suffering from cataracts previously had only a mono-focal lens implant option after surgery.

Contact Lens Fitting

contact lensContact lens fitting is one or our specialties at DuPage Ophthalmology. Contact lenses are used most of time to provide excellent vision to the patient without the encumbrance of a glass frame, making sporting and outdoor activities more enjoyable. With contact lenses, patients also experience wider field of vision, and in some cases, contact lenses provides better vision than glasses.

Our contact lens experts at DuPage Ophthalmology are Drs. Manastersky and Rupani, who have combined experience of over 30 years of caring for contact lens patients. For each contact lens patient, fitting contact lenses properly is the important first step, followed by carefully educating patient on the proper insertion and removal techniques and the proper care of contact lenses.

Depending on the shape and condition of the eye. Different types of contact lens are prescribed.

  • Regular soft contact lenses are for eyes with no or mild astigmatism
  • Toric soft contact lenses and gas permeable hard contact lenses are for eyes with significant astigmatism
  • Gas permeable and scleral hard contact lenses are particularly helpful in eye with significant corneal surface irregularities, such as in corneal scar and keratoconus. In these cases, the hard contact lenses restore vision by providing new clear, smooth, regular ocular surfaces for eyes to see through
  • Multi-focal contact lenses not only correct distance vision but also reduce the need for reading glasses for those patients in presbyopic age range (usually mid-forties and older).

As a referral center for corneal diseases, DuPage Ophthalmology has dealt with many patients who developed problems associated with improperly fitted or poorly cared-for contact lenses. In most cases, patients experience mild eye irritations, which usually respond to medical treatment readily. However in severe cases, serious infections can set in, necessitating aggressive therapy and possibly surgery. We stress to every contact lens patient the importance of:

  • Clean the contact lenses regularly as instructed.
  • Replace contact lenses as scheduled.
  • Return regularly for contact lens checkup.
  • Never sleep with contact lenses in eye unless otherwise instructed.
  • Remove contact lens immediate if the eye becomes painful, red, or sensitive to light and seek medical attention immediately.

At DuPage Ophthalmology, we strive to provide the contact lenses bested suited to the unique needs of each patient. We want each of our contact lens patients to see the best they can without jeopardizing the health of their eyes. We accomplish this by paying close attention to very step of the way in the care of our contact lens patients.

Bandage soft contact lens - Soft contact lens can also be used therapeutically, like a bandage, to cover an injured corneal surface, such as severe corneal abrasion or erosion of the corneal surface. The soft contact lens acts as barrier and protects the disrupted corneal surface from being further injured or irritated by the blinking movements of the upper eyelid. Bandage soft contact lens is usually worn 24 hours daily without removal. The bandage soft contact lens has to be kept lubricated and be replaced regularly, usually done by an eye professional. Bandage contact lenses should only be worn under medical supervision.
